Depression is not a “bad mood”. It is a medical condition that affects thinking, emotion, sleep, appetite, energy and concentration. It is diagnosable and treatable. With proper care, most people regain full functioning.
How it presents
Persistent sadness, emptiness or inability to feel joy (anhedonia)
Loss of interest in activities that used to bring pleasure
Severe fatigue and lack of energy — even after rest
Sleep disturbance: insomnia or hypersomnia
Changes in appetite and body weight
Difficulty concentrating and making decisions
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
Thoughts of death or self-harm
When to seek help
If the above symptoms last more than two weeks and affect your daily life — work, relationships, self-care — it is time to seek assessment. The earlier treatment begins, the faster the recovery and the lower the risk of relapse. You do not need to reach the point of being unable to function before asking for help.
How we approach it at Mindbeing
At Mindbeing, the assessment examines your biological, psychological and social picture together — including ruling out physical causes (e.g. thyroid, anaemia, vitamin D). Treatment combines: targeted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), typically planned over 12–20 sessions, and medication when indicated. In treatment-resistant cases, rTMS will be available from Q4 2026. At every stage, decisions are made together with you after an informed discussion
If you are currently having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please call 1018 (Greek Suicide Helpline EPIPSY) or 166 (EKAB emergency). The practice does not provide emergency psychiatric services.
If you recognise yourself or someone close to you in the above, a first session is the most practical next step.
